Five Sharp

Gluten-free Sunday dinners

Gluten hides in the places a cook stops looking: the soy sauce in the marinade, the roux under the gravy, the panko on the fish, the beer in the batter. So this page is strict on purpose. A plan is listed only when every component passed, and the check reads the ingredient lines of each dish rather than the name of the meal. Plans that fit everywhere except one component — a bread on the side, a dessert — are listed separately below with the reason, because a gluten-free household can usually just leave that dish out.

What counts: No wheat, barley, rye or anything made from them — bread, pasta, couscous, soy sauce, beer, breadcrumbs — in any component. Oats count as gluten unless the plan says gluten-free oats.
